A random collection of paintings throught the years

Artist Statement

I use the landscape images as a starting point, a way of looking into time, by seeing the position of a certain boulder or bedrock, the pools of water reflecting the sky or the arching overhang of a canyon live oak as elements I am able to reconnect with the distinct memory and physical sensation of being there.

I have always wanted my paintings to have this thickly layered history. One that is sanded into, and smoothed away like exposing a buried fossil through layers of silty rock.

I want the tension and suspense of discovery to come through these paintings and to feel as though, they could have easily been lost or scraped away completely and yet somehow miraculously have survived carrying with them some familiar and strangely important secret. Traces of a time or place once experienced returned to by the act of painting. An artifact of light.
